MALT'S MERMAID III is approximately 6 meters long and 2meters wide with total displacement of one ton, and is a reproduction of MERMAIDI designed in 1961. MERMAIDI was designed by Akira Yokoyama, and his son, Ichiro Yokoyama, redesigned it for the reproduction improving the rudder and the keel, a regulator of balance, which sticks out into the water. The hull is made with plywood made out of recycled whiskey barrels. (MERMAID I was made with lauan plywood)
