Renewed Design for Modernized MERMAID
The design was made originally by Akira Yokoyama as MERMAID I and his son, Ichiro Yokoyama renewed it for the new MERMAID. They both are the leading yacht designers in Japan, Akira Yokoyama being one of the originators of Japanese yacht design, and Ichiro Yokoyama who drew the design for Nippon Challenge team in America's Cup, is one of the world leading yacht designers. MERMAID I was designed in 1961, and the design is presently in possession of Akira Yokoyama. When asked by Kenichi Horie to reproduce MERMAID , Ichiro Yokoyama suggested in modernizing the design. Technologies in yacht building have improved amazingly in 40 years and the latest technologies are applied in renewed design.
